Russia insists on Syria opposition, terrorist lists prior to New York talks

Russian envoy to UN Vitaly Churkin said that UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura should play a key role in forming the delegation of Syrian opposition that will ultimately meet with Bashar Assad government officials for reconciliation talks.

US State Secretary John Kerry announced onTuesday that a fresh roundof Syria reconciliation talks inVienna format would be held onDecember 18 inNew York.

"As tothe December 18 meeting, inorder toset the final date and place forthe meeting inVienna format, it is crucial toachieve a consensus onthe list ofparticipants todetermine who is terrorist and who is not," Churkin said inan exclusive interview withRIA Novosti.

"We must know withwhom we can negotiate, and withwhom we cannot. It is a key condition," Churkin stressed.

The Russian diplomat added that UN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura should play a key role informing the delegation ofSyrian opposition that will ultimately meet withBashar Assad government officials forreconciliation talks.
