Beirut, Nov 19, IRNA � Senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader has referred to Iran as the backbone of stability and security in the region.

Ali Akbar Valayati made the remarks in a recent interview with the Lebanese daily As Safir.

Iran has succeeded to abort US plans in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq by increasing necessary support for the government of President Bashar al-Assad with the help of the Hezbollah of Lebanon and Iraqi forces, Velayati said.

He stressed that Tehran would never give up supporting President Assad, Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi and the resistance movements in Lebanon and Palestine.

Although the current situation in the region is not acceptable, Iran is opptimistic about a bettter future, said the official.

Today, Iran has become a great country with a strong military and security power that would prevent all from even daring to think of an attack on the country, Velayati said referring to Iran as the first power in the region.

He further noted that relations with other countries of the world countries should be based on mutual respect.
