Deputy FM dismisses allegations on Iran's interference in regional states

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian rejected allegations about Tehran's meddling in the regional countries, and said certain sides cannot distinguish between Iran's influence in the region and interference.

"Certain sides interpret our influence as meddling which shows their wrong understanding; we have gained this influence after over 30 years from the victory of the Islamic Revolution thanks to our logical behavior and words and we should use it to the benefit of our internal security and the Muslim world," Amir Abdollahian said in Tehran on Monday.

"No doubt we have spiritual influence in all regional states but this doesnt mean our interference in those countries," he added.

Amir Abdollahian underlined that Iran's clout and assistance to Syria prevented the overthrow of the political system in the country, while certain countries use terrorists as an instrument to attain their goals.

In relevant remarks in April, a prominent Syrian political analyst reiterated that Saudi Arabia's continued airstrikes on Yemen and the rise in terrorist attacks in Syria shows that the Al Saud regime is desperate to see Iran's increasing presence and influence in the region.

"Saudi Arabia's savage attacks on the Yemeni nation and the intensified terrorist acts in Syria show Saudi Arabia's real desperation vis--vis the increasing influence of Iran and the resistance front in the region," Afif Dalleh told FNA.

Also in 2014, Commander of the Iranian Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan blasted the crimes committed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in different regional countries, and said they are the US proxy force fighting to wear off Iran's influence in the region.

"Today, the enemy is seeking to overthrow the Islamic Revolution through different threats, soft wars, economic sanctions and proxy wars," Pourdastan said, addressing a gathering near the Northern city of Amol last year.

Noting that the US has waged a proxy war in the region, he said, "By killing people, the ISIL forces in the Arab states and al-Nusra Front in Syria are fighting for the US in a proxy war."
