Araqchi: Talks with 5+1 sign of Irans self-confidence in foreign policy

Tehran, Nov 3, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said negotiations with six world powers on Irans alienable nuclear rights was a token of the nations self-confidence in pursuing its foreign policies.

Talking in an Iranian TV news program on Monday, he referred to the recent gathering of the heads of Irans diplomatic missions abroad and their meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He said as the Leader stressed Irans foreign policy builds on such basic principles of supporting Muslims worldwide, confronting hegemonic powers and resisting their excessive demands.

Noting that these principles are not to be changed, he said like in other areas such as defense, science and technology, Iran should safeguard its interests in diplomatic fields as well.

Turning to the nuclear deal between Iran and the six world powers, he said Europe and the US have already offered the needed guarantees but Iranian legal experts are still working on them to ensure they cover everything Tehran favors.

He said the results will be officially announced in a few days.

He also said that the International Atomic Energy Agency too is to introduce its report in a months time with its Board of Governors to meet in mid-December.

Araqchi said if things go smoothly, sanctions will start to be removed in practice in the next two months.

Given the capabilities of the Iranian scientists, the foreign ministry official stressed, the wish of the Supreme Leader regarding maintaining 190,000 SWUs will be materialized.

He said Iranian ministers are to sign a contract with their 5+1 counterparts next week on implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

He continued to note that negotiations are on between Iran, US and European countries to come up with a list of trade principles for companies and banks.

Araqchi said informal talks have been going between Tehran and Washington since November 12 when the JCPOA was signed on instructions for lifting sanctions.

Commenting on the Vienna meeting on Syria, the foreign ministry deputy said there were no bilateral talks between Iran and the US on the Syrian issue.

He pointed to harsh dialogue between the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Saudi counterpart Adel al-Jubeir during the talks in Vienna and said many in the meeting finally admitted that the views of the Iranian foreign minister were already gaining ground in the talks.

Araqchi said realities underway in Syria prove that nothing serious will happen in Syria unless Irans views which are rooted in the rightful demands of the Syrian nation are materialized.
