President Rouhani orders swift resolution of flood-hit Ilam crisis

Tehran, Nov. 1, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani sympathized with the affected families of the recent flooding incident in the province of Ilam in Western Iran, and ordered swift compensation for the losses and taking the needed measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

'All executive bodies are commissioned to take rapid measures for compensate the losses and take the needed measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future,' President Rouhani said, addressing the cabinet meeting on Sunday.

The Iranian president asked the concerned ministers, specially Head of the Management and Planning Organization Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, to go to Ilam province and closely probe the problems of the people.

Nobakht also submitted a report on the Ilam flood incident to the cabinet and the board of ministers agreed with allocating 100 billion rials to the management crisis and compensating for the losses.

Parliament member Omran Ali Mohammadi said the flood in the past few days has caused huge damage to the southwestern province.

Talking to IRNA on Saturday, he estimated the destructions as standing at over rls 7000 billion (around $200)

He said the floods which were unprecedented during the past century have destroyed many urban infrastructures across the province.

Most of the houses were filled with water in many provincial cities especially capital of the province, Ilam, he added.

Nobakht said on Friday that President Rouhani has urgently demanded emergency assistance to the province.

Three days of rainfall sparked floods in Ilam Province, which have killed three people. Another one is still missing.
