Iran, Pakistan can boost regional stability, security: Iran official

A senior Iranian official saysPakistan enjoys a keyposition in the region, noting thatTehran-Islamabad cooperation can contribute to promotion of stability and security in the region, particularly in the eastern partof the Middle East.

Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani told reporters upon arrival in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, on Wednesday that he woulddiscuss with Pakistani officialsfurther enhancementof bilateral ties following the conclusion of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group-- officially known as theJoint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The Islamic Republic of Iran, in the post-JCPOA era, seeks to tap into all existing potentialto boostits cooperation with regional countries, Shamkhani said.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany finalized the text of the JCPOAin the Austrian capital, Vienna.

Shamkhani said Iran attaches great significance to the expansion of ties with Islamabad in political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields givenPakistans status in the Islamic world.

Iran-Pakistan cooperation contributes tothe restoration of regional stability and security and plays a significant role in the battle against terrorism which has turned to a main challenge for the Islamic world today, he stressed.

During his visit, the senior Iranian official is scheduled to hold talks with high-ranking Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the advisor to the prime minister onnational securityand foreign affairs, Sartaj Aziz, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, and newly appointed Pakistani National Security Adviser Nasir Khan Janjua to discuss bilateral ties, regional developments andthe fight against terrorism.

The Iranian official is also scheduledto attend a joint press conference with Sartaj Aziz later on Wednesday.
