US, allies demand UN action after Iran missile test, report says

Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA - The United States, Britain, France and Germany called on Wednesday for the United Nations Security Council's Iran sanctions committee to take action over a missile test by Tehran.

The letter containing details on the launch, was sent to the committee after the United States raised the issue in the 15-member Security Council, Reuters reported.

Iran said earlier this month that it had tested a new precision-guided ballistic missile.

'None of the Islamic Republic of Iran's missiles has been designed for a nuclear capability,' Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Saturday, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.

The missile test is not a violation of the nuclear deal, US officials have said.

Meanwhile, Iranian legislators in a statement issues on October 14 lauded the Armed Forces for successful test fire of a new long-range ballistic missile.

220 MPs in a statement declared their support also for Armed Forces and Defense Ministry's domestically developed torpedo system dubbed 'ValFajr'.

New defense industry productions can definitely increase Iran's defensive capabilities against potential threats and can disappoint enemies, the statement added.

Iran has also declared production of the domestically developed torpedo system dubbed 'ValFajr,' that has a 485-pound warhead that can be used against heavy vessels. It can travel at high speeds and operate in deep or shallow waters.
