Croatia calls for expansion of ties with Iran

Tehran, Oct 3, IRNA Croatia Parliament Speaker Josip Leko on Saturday called for expansion of bilateral ties with Iran.

Speaking in a joint press conference with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, Leko called Iran a regional power, and pointed that Tehran and Zagreb enjoyed cordial ties during the sanctions era.

He underlined that Croatia is committed to develop ties with Iran in all fields including science, economy and culture.

Iran's stance towards international problems including the terrorism is important for Croatia, Leko added.

He underlined that Iran and Croatia have good potential for increase of economic ties.

The official offered his condolences to the families of victims of Mina tragedy, Iranian nation and government.

During the joint press conference, Larijani for his part said that Iran's Majlis would pursue the case of Mina tragedy in the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUOICM).

He noted that Iran has sent a letter to the PUOICM in case of Mina tragedy and would pursue the case through legal procedures.

Muslim states should get convinced that catastrophic events such as what happened in Mina, Mecca on September 24, would not happen in the future, the speaker added.

Larijani said that fighting terrorism has been one of the topics of his talks with Croatian parliament speaker.

He underlined that the atmosphere is ripe for boost ties between Tehran and Zagreb in all fields including science, culture and economy.

Speaker of Croatian parliament conferred on bilateral ties with his Iranian counterpart on Saturday morning. The two officials discussed latest regional and international developments during the meeting.

Larijani and Leko stressed improvement of parliamentary ties between the two states.

Leko, heading a parliamentary and economic delegation arrived Tehran on Saturday morning.

The Croatian delegation's four-day visit is taking place at the invitation of Larijani.
