Terrorists threaten regional security under name of religion: VP

Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA – Vice-President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Moulaverdi said that without stability and security moving toward development is domed to failure.

‘Today terrorist groups are threatening security of countries in the region under the name of religion,’ she told a local meeting here on Thursday themed ‘Women, Security and Sustainable Development’ focusing on violence against women.
Incidents are happening in countries of the region like Iraq, Syria and Palestine from ethnic cleansing to floods of refugees and raping women shown that security in these countries is shattered by terrorist groups under the name of religion, she added.
‘In such a situation, talking about growth and development is futile.’

The VP also called on Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to pass a resolution concentrating on women issues and by underlining values of Islam, so Muslim women can contribute to sustainable development in their societies.

She added that the OIC has a 10-year plan of action in order to develop Islamic countries focusing on the role of women, which is necessary to be paid attention by these countries.

Vice-President for Legal Affairs Elham Aminzadeh and Afghanistan minister of women affairs als took part in the meeting.
