Zarif: New atmosphere created for Tehran-New Delhi enhanced ties

New Delhi, Aug 13, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the expansion of Tehran-New Delhi relations is the most important goal of his visit to India.

‘The new atmosphere created after the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers has created suitable opportunity for broadening of ties between the two countries,’ Zarif told reporters upon his arrival at Indira Ghandi International Airport in New Delhi on Thursday night.

He pointed to Iran-India relations, and said, ‘Iran has had very good relations with India as a big regional country and a member-state of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Thursday.

Zarif reiterated that his visit to India creates suitable opportunities for the broadening of ties after the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the world powers as well as removal of some problems.

Zarif arrived here on Thursday night to discuss bilateral ties with senior Indian officials.

Zarif will meet his Indian counterpart, prime minister, shipping and road minister, vice-president and several other high-ranking officials in New Delhi.

Regional developments, nuclear agreement and the conditions of the two countries’ nationals are among topics of discussion of Zarif with Indian officials.

Zarif, who arrived in Islamabad on Thursday morning, during his 10-hour stay here met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz, Chairman of Senate Raza Rabbani and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

He attended a joint press conference with his Pakistani counterpart and delivered speech in foreign affairs committee of National Assembly.

Necessity on expansion of bilateral ties after nuclear agreement in economic and trade fields and underlining necessity of cooperation between the two countries in assisting to establish peace, stability and security in the region were among the most important axis of consultations in Islamabad.

At the second leg of his tour to regional countries, which started on Tuesday, Zarif visited Beirut and Damascus on Tuesday and Wednesday and tomorrow he will meet with Indian senior officials in New Delhi.
