Moscow hopes for progress at Iranian talks - Russian presidential aide

Moscow hopes that the talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group of international negotiators in Vienna will see success and, as it appears, this is exactly what is going to happen, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.



OSCOW (Sputnik) Late onMonday night, several media reported that Iran and the P5+1 group have agreed the body ofthe final agreement and all the annexes toit exceptfor the one onthe new resolution bythe UN Security Council.

However, a source ina Western delegation told RIA Novosti that the sides are still quite far fromreaching a final deal.
We truly hope that progress will be made duringthis negotiations and everything suggests it will happen, Ushakov said inan interview withRIA Novosti, RT and VGTRK.


Iran and the P5+1 group ofnegotiators, comprising Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, are trying tosecure a deal ensuring the peaceful nature ofTehran's nuclear program inexchange forlifting ofsanctions againstIran.

The deadline forreaching an agreement is July 7.

The ministers also held a number ofbilateral meetings. US Secretary ofState John Kerry and Foreign Minister ofIran Mohammad Javad Zarif have had two meetings. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met withhis Iranian counterpart aswell aswith German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.All the participants ofthe ministerial marathon kept contacts withpress tominimum.

Remaining Differences

A number ofkey issues is believed tostill remain unresolved, including the mechanism ofremoval and reintroduction ofsanctions againstIran (Snap Back). The P5+1 group reportedly insists ongradual lifting ofthe restrictions and Tehran wants all the sanctions tobe removed right afterthe final agreement is signed.


Lausanne AgreementsUnder the preliminary agreement reached inLausanne onApril 2, Iran has agreed tocut the number ofcentrifuges bymore thantwo-thirds inten years.

Iran will reduce the number ofcentrifuges from19,000 installed today to6,104, withonly 5,060 ofthem enriching uranium.

Iran will not enrich uranium over3.67 percent for15 years and will reduce its stockpile from10,000 kilograms (about 22,000 pounds) oflow-enriched uranium (LEU) to300 kg (660 lbs) of3.67 percent LEU forat least 15 years.

Iran has also agreed not tobuild any new uranium enrichment facilities fora period ofat least 15 years.
Tehran has also agreed toconvert its Fordow facility intoa scientific research and nuclear technology center and use it exclusively forpeaceful purposes.Iran will remove almost two-thirds ofFordow's centrifuges and will not use the remaining ones foruranium enrichment. All centrifuges will be monitored bythe IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency).

Under the new deal, US and EU nuclear-related sanctions imposed onIran will be suspended afterthe IAEA verifies that Iran has started followingthrough withthe key nuclear agreements.
The UN Security Council will also lift some ofits sanctions againstIran and will cancel all ofits pastresolutions onthe Iran nuclear issue.Reporters Beleive Vienna Round ofNuclear Talks toBe Over Soon

It is still unclear whether the negotiations inVienna will be prolonged foranother few days ofthe participants will decide toleave the Austrian capital and postpone working onthe document. On Monday, a source inIranian delegation said that even if the talks are prolonged untilJuly "there would not be the end ofthe world."

Most ofthe reporters covering the negotiations expect the deal tobe reached duringthe current round. 204 outof 600 journalists accredited attalks took part inan improvised poll, 158 said they believe the deal will be signed duringthe current roundof talks and only some 10 percent said they think otherwise.

Regarding the date when the agreement will be signed, 62 reporters named July 8, 52 July 7, and 36 Thursday, July 9.
