Iran fully supports legal governments in the region in their fight against terrorism, a senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says.
“Iran has, to a great extent, succeeded in overcoming terrorism, and we are witnessing that the country is a safe center in the region and full security has been established in it,” Ali Akbar Velayati said on Saturday.
“However, we are witnessing blind terror acts by Western-backed terrorists in some regional countries,” he added.
Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, Iranian people were among the first victims of Western-backed terrorism, he noted.
He emphasized that terrorism has spread across the region because the US, the Israeli regime and reactionary regional countries are equipping terrorists with money and weapons, and are training them to carry out terrorist acts.
Velayati urged countries victimized by terrorist moves to reinforce their convergence and said Iran, Syria and Iraq, which are on the front line of resistance, are jointly fighting terrorism.
On June 22, Iran’s Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said a tripartite meeting between Iran, Syria and Iraq would be held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
“The three countries that are conducting measures in the field of resistance against Israel, fight against terrorism, violence and extremism will expand their cooperation and prepare the ground for common activities,” he pointed out.
He expressed hope that the Iran-Iraq-Syria meeting would be a prelude to stronger unity among Muslim countries in the region which share the same activities and views and would further lead to a multilateral meeting among ministers of all Muslim states.
