Merkel stresses Iran's 'importance' in fight against Daesh

Berlin, Jun 8, IRNA -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday emphasized 'Iran's importance' in the fight against the terrorist group Daesh, according to IRNA.

Addressing a news conference at the end of the two-day G7 summit in the south German town of Elmau, Merkel said a nuclear agreement is 'highly desirable' because Iran is an 'important actor' in the Syrian conflict and the fight against the 'Islamic State' (Daesh).

The war on Daesh was a top priority at the G7 Summit in Elmau focusing on terrorist challenges like Daesh and Boko Haram, Merkel said earlier.

Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi as well as the leaders of Nigeria and Tunesia whose countries are mostly affected by terrorism, attended the G7 meeting discussing an effective anti-terror campaign.
