Iraqi president arrives in Tehran

Tehran, May 12, IRNA – Iraqi President Fouad Masoum arrived in Tehran on Tuesday afternoon.

President Massoum, who is on the head of a high ranking delegation, is in Tehran upon invitation of President Hassan Rouhani.

President Massoum said on Saturday that Iraq relations with Iran are strategic and that Iran was the first country which sent military assistances to support Iraq in war against ISIS.

He said that Iran and Iraqi relations are at high level in all fields, including economic, culture and military and ‘we intend to expand it more.’

President Masoum is on a visit to Tehran at an invitation from President Hassan Rouhani delivered by First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri during his visit to Iraq last February.

This is the first visit of President Fouad Masoum to Iran since he took office last summer.

He will be accorded formal welcome on Wednesday morning.
