Iran reiterates call for diplomatic settlement of crisis in Yemen

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran, once again, called on the world states and international bodies to utilize their entire diplomatic capacities to force the Saudi-led coalition to immediately halt their airstrikes on Yemen to pave the ground for the holding of national dialogue in the crisis-hit country.

Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi underlined that the Yemen's crisis should be only solved through political ways and the Saudi-led military approach will just complicate and deteriorate the dispute.

He further added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has presented a four article plan to the UN to settle the crisis in Yemen.

In mid-April, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif put forward details of a proposed peace plan according to which Tehran seeks to help end the ongoing conflict gripping Yemen.

During his visit to the Spanish capital, Madrid, Zarif proposed a four-point plan, emphasizing the Yemeni nations right to decide its own future free from foreign interference.

The proposal includes hammering out a ceasefire, sending humanitarian assistance to the people affected by violence, launching an intra-Yemeni dialog, and establishing a broad-based government participated by all Yemeni factions, according to Zarif.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 46 days now to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 3,612 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Hadi stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Houthi movement.

Despite Riyadh's claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

On April 21, the monarchy declared end to Yemen airstrikes after five weeks of bombings, but airstrikes are still underway.
