The United States could respond to Iran's possible attempts to escalate tensions in the Middle East, the US State Secretary John Kerry said Wednesday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US top diplomat spoke inthe wake ofreports that Iran had dispatched two naval ships, including a destroyer, towaters offYemen earlier inthe day."Iran needs torecognize that the United States is not going tostand bywhile the region is destabilized or while people engage inovert warfare acrosslines international boundaries inother countries," Kerry told the PBS television.
The US State Secretary added that the United States were able "to stand upto interference that is inappropriate or againstinternational law."
Earlier, Yemeni officials had claimed that Iran was supplying weapons tothe Shiite Houthi rebels, who control large parts ofYemen including capital Sanaa.
Tehran has criticized the Saudi-led air operation targeting the Houthi positions inYemen and has called fora ceasefire inthe country.
