Moscow believes Iran, P5+1 could reach agreement before June 30

Deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow believes that the P5+1 group and Iran could reach an agreement on Tehran's disputed nuclear program before the June 30 deadline.


GENEVA (Sputnik) Moscow believes that the P5+1 group and Iran could reach an agreement onTehran's disputed nuclear program beforethe June 30 deadline, deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov said Monday.

"We are satisfied that every new meeting we achieve greater progress thanthe last. The confidence grows that it will be possible toreach an agreement inthe framework ofthe given deadline, that is, June 30," Ryabkov said.

On Sunday, delegations fromIran and the P5+1 group, comprising the United States, Russia, China, France and Germany, met inGeneva todiscuss Tehran's nuclear program.

The head ofIranian delegation Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the negotiations were constructive, butthe parties are still far fromreaching an agreement.Iran's nuclear program has long been a point ofconcern forthe international community. The UN Security Council and a number ofcountries have imposed several rounds ofsanctions onIran, accusing it ofdeveloping nuclear weapons. Tehran has repeatedly rejected those claims, stating that its uranium enrichment program is forpeaceful purposes only.

Iran and the P5+1 group have held several rounds oftalks toreach a comprehensive agreement oncountry's nuclear program inrecent years withlimited results. A long-term deal has tobe reached byJuly 2015.
