ISIL keeps distance from Iranian borders wary of crushing response

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan said ISIL evacuated areas closer than 40km to the Iranian border after receiving relevant warnings from Tehran.
"When the terrorist and Takfiri ISIL grouplet entered Iraq from the country's Western borders and reached near the Iranian borders, the Ground Force was fully ready to suppress the terrorist grouplet," Pourdastan said in an interview with the state-run news agency on Tuesday.

"At that time, in addition to full preparedness at the borders, we drew a redline 40km inside the Iraqi soil and underlined that if they passed this redline, they would be given a crushing response by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Armed Forces," he added.

The ISIL terrorist grouplet received the message and rapidly moved away from the specified areas, Pourdastan said.

He also reiterated the full preparedness of the Ground Force's different units to safeguard and defend the Iranian borders at any moment.

In relevant remarks in September, Pourdastan stressed full security at the country's borders, and said his forces were monitoring all moves along the borders and would give a crushing and rigid response to the ISIL if the terrorist group ever dared to pose a threat to Iran.

"Thanks God, the Ground Force enjoys a satisfactory level of preparedness to defend the country's borders today," General Pourdastan told reporters on the sidelines of the annual military parades in Tehran.

He noted that the Iranian Army monitors all moves near the country's borders, and said that his forces would crush the ISIL terrorists inside Iraq if the Takfiri terrorist group dared to make a move against Iran.

"This is the capability of the Iranian Ground Force and it shows we enjoy the required level of preparedness to confront all threats," he added.

Yet, General Pourdastan underlined that the ISIL was not considered a threat to Iran, and added, "But Iran has no problem for confronting this terrorist group."
