Iranian delegation to arrive in Geneva for nuclear talks December 15

Tehran's negotiation team comprising experts and an aide to the Iranian foreign minister will arrive in Geneva on December 15, the AEOI spokesman said.


TEHRAN, December 11 (Sputnik) The Iranian delegation will arrive inGeneva fornuclear talks onDecember 15, Atomic Energy Organization ofIran (AEOI) Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told Sputnik Thursday.

The negotiation team comprising experts and an aide tothe Iranian foreign minister will fly fromTehran toGeneva onDecember 15, and the meeting will take place onDecember 16 or 17. But if the delegation leaves inthe morning, first consultations may be held late onDecember 15, he said.

The West has long suspected Iran ofdeveloping nuclear weapons underthe guise ofa civilian nuclear program, while Tehran insists that its nuclear activity is aimed tosatisfy the countrys growing energy needs.

In November 2013, duringtalks inGeneva, the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Germany agreed toreach a deal withTehran guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program byJuly 2014. The deadline forthe agreement was later postponed toNovember 24, 2014.

The latest roundof talks betweenIran and the P5+1 inVienna did not produce a comprehensive deal onIran's nuclear program and the sides agreed tocontinue the discussions untilJuly 2015.

Earlier this week Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that the new roundof talks will be held beforethe end of2014.
