Russia, Iran oppose West’s interference in home affairs: Russian lawmaker

The head of the Russian delegation to Iran said the policy of Western countries caused crises across the globe.

TEHRAN, November 17 (Sputnik) – Russia and Iran oppose the interference of certain Western nations in internal affairs of other countries, Sergei Naryshkin, the chairman of Russia's lower house of parliament, said Monday.

"We oppose the policy of certain Western countries, which cause crises across the globe; we stand for the adherence to international law regulations in international relations and for the inadmissibility of the interference in other nations' domestic affairs," Naryshkin told reporters after a meeting with Iranian Parliament chairman Ali Larijani.

The Russian official noted the similarity of Moscow's and Tehran's views on international economic sanctions.

"We consider the so-called sanctions as nothing but an instrument of undisguised economic and political pressure, an instrument, which has nothing to do with international law or WTO [World Trade Organization] regulations," Naryshkin added.

Naryshkin heads the State Duma's delegation to Iran, which also includes the heads of the energy, foreign affairs and transport committees. The visit lasts until November 17.
