Irans foreign trade surpasses $49bln in 6 months

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's foreign trade hit USD 49.69 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2014-September 22, 2014), the latest customs data showed.
The value of Iran's non-oil exports stood at $123.669bln and its imports amounted to over $26.021bln in the same period, a report by Iran's Customs Organization said.

An ICO report last month also said that Iran's foreign trade amounted to $41.620 billion in the first five months of the current year (March 21August 22).

Earlier this month, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri hailed the eye-catching increase in Iran's non-oil exports in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2014-August 22, 2014).

In April, a customs office report said that Iran's total trade balance (including its oil exports) with 83 world countries surpassed $92bln last year.

The report said that Iran's imports of non-oil goods amounted to $50.818bln last year (ended March 20, 2014).

"Iran's non-oil exports showed a 20-percent rise in the first five months of the current year (started March 21) as compared with the corresponding period in the last year," Jahangiri said, addressing a meeting held to study the pending projects in Tehran.

He pointed to the regional countries as one of Iran's biggest target markets, and said, "The Asian, African and Latin American countries are appropriate markets where we can be present.

Jahangiri called on the country's private sector to play a more active role in non-oil exports.
