The new sanctions imposed by the US against Iran erode trust ahead of the upcoming nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1), says an Iranian official.On Monday, Irans Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi slammed the USs new anti-Iran bans and said the move is clearly the continuation of the US administrations already failed policies on Tehran.
Introducing new restrictive measures against Iran harms confidence ahead of a new round of nuclear negotiations between the Islamic Republic and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China plus Germany in New York later this month, Qashqavi said.
On August 29, the White House announced the imposition of a new round of sanctions on over 25 individuals and companies, including shipping firms, oil companies, airlines and six banks over alleged links with Irans nuclear energy program.
A day later, Irans Foreign Ministry condemned the bans, saying they contravene the interim nuclear accord of November 2013 reached between Iran and the six countries over the Islamic Republics civilian nuclear work.
The interim deal, signed in the Swiss city of Geneva, took effect on January 20 and expired six months later, but the two negotiating sides agreed to extend their negotiations until November 24 in a bid to work out a final accord.
Based on the Geneva agreement, no new sanctions should be imposed against the Islamic Republic while the interim accord is still in effect.
