Ankara (AFP) - Turkey's outgoing premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in as president on Thursday to extend his more than decade-long dominant rule of the country.
Erdogan, who won the country's first direct presidential election on August 10, took his oath in parliament to become the 12th president of modern Turkey.
Deputies of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), who accuse Erdogan of violating the constitution, walked out of the session just before he was sworn in.
