Iran has hosted a conference on the philosophy of the Islamic physician and philosopher Avicenna in the countrys midwest city of Hamedan.Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, Avicenna Cultural and Scientific Foundation Director Ayatollah Ghiaseddin Taha-Mohammadi, and a number of clerics and scholars attended the conference held at the Hamedan University of Medical Sciences.
Organized by the Avicenna Cultural and Scientific Foundation, the one-day conference was held to commemorate the ancient scientist Avicenna (Ibn Sinna) on Irans National Physicians Day, August 23.
Born in 980 CE, Abu Ali Sina (Ibn Sina) read and memorized the entire Quran by age 10 and began his prodigious writing career at age 21.
Known with Latinized name Avicenna, was a Persian polymath, physician and philosopher who wrote almost 450 treatises on a wide range of subjects.
Avicennas internationally renowned book The Canon of Medicine has been a medical text-book studied in many medieval universities.
In the medieval Islamic world, due to Avicenna's successful reconciliation between the Aristotelianism and Neoplatonism, the Avicennism had eventually become the leading school of Islamic philosophy with Avicenna becoming a central authority on philosophy.
