Turkmens interested in Iran goods, services

TEHRAN August 24 (Shana)--Iran is in talks with Turkmenistan for the signature of agreements for exporting engineering services and commodities to the Central Asian state, a petroleum ministry advisor said.
Mohammad-Taqi Amanpour said Turkmenistan has welcomed cooperation with Iranian companies that recently attended an exhibition there.

During the two-day exhibition [which ended on August 19], good talks were held with Iranian companies for the purchase of goods, he said.

He added that 140 Iranian companies showcased their products and services in the event.

Iran is Turkmenistans second largest trade partner after Russia.

The Islamic Republic exports machinery, construction materials, sedans, buses, food stuff, agricultural and petrochemical products, electrical products and home appliances to Turkmenistan, and imports natural gas, electricity, textiles and agricultural products from its northern neighbor.

Iran and Turkmenistan have had official diplomatic relations since Turkmenistan's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Iran was the first nation to recognize Turkmenistan as an independent country.

The two countries have maintained good relations ever since and have cooperated in the economic, infrastructure and energy sectors.
