Russias ambassador to the United Nations says Moscow fears the scale of turmoil cause by Israeli in the Gaza Strip may grow.
From the beginning of Israels ground operation, the situation around the Gaza Strip has reached a new dangerous round of tension. We are deeply concerned about this development of the events, Vitaly Churkin said on Friday.

There is every reason for that, he added.

The Russian envoy also stated that stopping the military confrontation is the most vital task at the moment, adding that the situation will be completely out of control otherwise. Churkin also backed Egypts initiative, which could be the basis for a ceasefire between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed Israels fatal attacks on Gaza during a phone conversation on Friday. Kremlin said in a statement that the conversation between the two officials came after the sharp escalation of the crisis caused by Israels ground invasion of Gaza.

Both sides stressed the need for a speedy end to the armed conflict and the resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Israels attacks on the Gaza Strip have been going on since July 8. The Israeli regime also launched a ground invasion of the blockaded enclave late on Thursday, pushing the death toll to 309. According to reports, about a third of the fatalities have been women and children. Nearly 2,000 others have also been injured in the attacks.
