Rouhani to visit Tajikistan in September for SCO summit

Irans President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to visit Tajikistan in September to attend the summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The summit is planned to be held on September 12-13 in the Tajik capital city of Dushanbe.

Rouhani is expected to hold meetings with his Chinese and Kyrgyz counterparts, Xi Jinping and Almazbek Atambayev respectively, on the sidelines of the event.

Iran, Afghanistan, India, Mongolia and Pakistan have an observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental organization that was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Last year, the SCO summit was held in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek, bringing together heads of both member and observer states.
