TEHRAN (Tasnim) The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraqs Karbala governorate said the economic relations have grown between the two provinces.Speaking in the northern city of Qazvin, capital of Qazvin province, on Wednesday, Shokrollah Taheri hoped that with the implementation of the agreement signed in 2010 between the two provinces, bilateral trade and economic relations will develop further.
Taheri noted that the value of the annual commercial exchanges between Iran and Iraq amounted to $12 billion last year, adding that the annual amount should rise to $20 billion.
In order to achieve this objective, he said, there needs to be investments (by Iran) in Iraqs Arab and Kurdish regions as well as an integrated and purposeful planning.
On May 19, Iranian minister of foreign affairs described strong bilateral ties between Iran and Iraq as beneficial to the Middle East region.
"Close relations between Iran and Iraq are not only in favor of the two nations, but also benefit the region," Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a meeting with the visiting head of Iraqs Supreme Judicial Council, Medhat al-Mahmoud, at the time.
Zarif also underlined the significance of establishing strategic ties between the two neighboring countries. He said the reciprocal visits by the high-ranking Iranian and Iraqi delegations and an upward trend in the bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad clearly demonstrate 'their strong resolve' to expand ties.
