TEHRAN, May 25 (MNA) Iranians mourn on the martyrdom anniversary of the Shiites' 7th Imam, Musa Kadhim on today, Sunday.
Musa bin Jafar (Musa son of Jafar) is the 7th Imam of twelver Shiites who was martyred by the caliph of the time Harun Rashid in 799.
Twelve Shiites believe in succession of Prophet Mohammad which started with Imam Ali and continued by his successors, firs his two sons and then their sons.
Imam Musa Kadhim is the son of 6th Imam, Jafar Sadeq, and is considered the 7th Imam for twelve Shiites. Since he was greatly loved and respected by his followers (Shiites) the caliph of the time Harun Rashid who could not tolerate it imprisoned him before poisoning Musa Kadhim to death.
Imam Musa Kadhim was buried in the city of Kadhimiya which is now in Iraq and many Shiites visit his holy shrine all year long.
During the imprisonment and after the martyrdom some of his children moved to Iran, where more Shiites were living and willing to have Imams among them. Shiites 8th Imam, Ali Reza lived in Mashhad where his holy shrine is visited by many lovers all the time.
