Iraq pledges to fully dismantle terrorist groups
Iraqs Deputy Prime Minister Rowsch Nuri Shaways says the Iraqi government will continue efforts to establish stability and peace in the country, pledging full dismantling of terrorist groups.
All Iraqi political groups and people seek to establish security and political stability and the Iraqi government will continue to combat against terrorist groups until their full elimination, Shaways said in a meeting with Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Monday.

He added that Iran and Iraq have great political, economic and cultural opportunities and implementing the previous agreements and continuation of negotiations between the two countries can help expand friendly bilateral ties.

The Iranian Majlis speaker, for his part, praised the recent successful parliamentary elections in Iraq as a sign of the expansion and consolidation of democracy in the country.

Holding the elections with a majority turnout of the Iraqi people shows the growth and deepening of democracy in Iraq which can serve as a model for other countries, Larijani said.

On April 30, Iraq held parliamentary elections - its first nationwide polls since the US troops withdrew in 2011 - despite threats by al-Qaeda-linked militants to ruin the election process.

Twenty million Iraqis were eligible to vote in the polls. According to the countrys Election Commission, the turnout was 60 percent.
