Pelvic fracture surgery on 115-year-old woman successful
Tehran April 14, IRNA - A pelvic fracture surgery was successfully performed recently on a 115 year old woman who lives in Maneh and Samalqan city of North Khorasan province.
In an interview with IRNA, Dr. Reza Shirvani Bakhtiari said that a surgical screw was inserted into her bone very easily in the surgery which surprised many specialists.

He added that the old lady broke her pelvic bone in a fall.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones become weak and are more likely to break, Bakhtiari said adding that the disease intensifies with age. He noted that natural and healthy nutrition strengthen the bones of older women.

Dr. Mohsen Abad, head of Imam Ali Hospital of Bojnourd, referred to the high risk associated with the exposure to anesthetic drug for persons aged over 50.

He said older women with high percentage of cardiac output (over 50 percent) and high lung capacity successfully manage to endure the surgery.
