Tehran, April 8, IRNA - Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said that Iran?s proposed ambassador to the United Nations Hamid Abutalebi is absolutely competent for the position.
Talking to reporters during her weekly press briefing here on Tuesday, she made the remarks when asked if Iran would propose another person to replace Abutalebi.

The US Senate is seeking a bill to authorize the country?s president to deny visa to proposed ambassadors who are considered as potential threats to the US national security or are suspected of terrorist actions.

Afkham said Iran has named its ambassador to the UN and done the necessary correspondence for his visa through appropriate channels.

She said Iran thinks its proposed ambassador is totally qualified for the position given his good, effective and positive performance in his past diplomatic missions in a number of European countries as well as in Australia.

She said Iran is following the issue through diplomatic channels and will make decisions after receiving feedbacks from official bodies.
