Iran summons Pakistani envoy over fate of Iranian border guards

Tehran, March 26, IRNA - Iran Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran in a bid to follow up the case of the Iranian border guards who were recently kidnapped into Pakistan by terrorist groups, an informed source said on Wednesday.
The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that the Pakistani envoy was summoned to urge Islamabad to take immediate action to identify and arrest the perpetrators behind kidnapping the five Iranian border guards and deliver them to Iran.
On February 6, the Iranian border guards were abducted in the Jakigour region of the province of Sistan and Baluchestan in southeastern country which borders Pakistan. The men were later transferred to the Pakistani territory.

The so-called Jeish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the abductions.

Following reports on martyrdom of one of the captive border guards, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said the Pakistani government was responsible for the safety of the kidnapped Iranian guards.

Afkham expressed deep regret over the news and, accusing Pakistan of failing to take serious measures to secure the safety of Iranian border guards, called for immediate capture of the terrorists and extraditing them with Iran.

Afkham voiced Tehran?s readiness to cooperate with Islamabad at any level to ensure the security of bordering areas and fight terrorism.
