In memory of Ghasem Ghani, acclaimed Iranian physician, politician
Tehran, March 26, IRNA March 26 coincides with the demise anniversary of the acclaimed Iranian physician and politician, Ghasem Ghani.
Born in 1272 (1893 AD) in Sabzevar in Khorasan Razavi Province in northeastern Iran, Ghani spent his early education in his hometown and then continued to Dar ul-Funun School (Polytechnic institute?) in Tehran where he also began to learn the French language.

He went to Lebanon after receiving his diploma and managed to continue his education in medical sciences at St. Joseph school there. During these years, he learned fluent Arabic and English.

Then he returned to his hometown to practice medicine and also contributed in building the town?s first ever major hospital.

In years to come, the prominent physician proceeded to the parliament as a representative for four times and then to head two ministries of health and culture while teaching in Tehran University as a faculty member.

The acclaimed scholar who simultaneously has an outstanding profile as a politician and a man of literature has compiled many valuable works including critics to the biggest books of the Iranian literature including those belonging to Hafiz and Avicenna and produced translations into Persian of many brilliant world literature.

In the final years of his life, he traveled abroad to treat his cancer but passed away in 1331 (1952).
