Afghan people deserve good future: Rafsanjani

Tehran, Feb 12, IRNA Chairman of Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjanisaid that the Afghan people who have suffered many problems in the course of history deserve a good future.

In a meeting with Afghan Minister of Higher Education Abidullah Abid, he expressed pleasure with the relative stability in the country and hoped that the two nations would remove distances based on their cultural, civilizational and lingual commonalities.


Occupiers should leave Afghanistan and let the Afghans handle their own affairs because they themselves are familiar with their domestic issues and have real sympathy towards their homeland, he said.

Describing internal differences as very detrimental to the country both at present and in the future, Rafsanjani noted that security and unity are among the essential needs of the country and all tribes and ethnic groups should accept that Afghanistan beongs to all of them.

Referring to the presence of the Afghan migrants in Iran, he recalled that the Iranian nation has a humanitarian and Islamic attitude towards them.

He also voiced Azad University?s readiness to upgrade the level of education for Afghan migrants to the doctorate level.

Rafsanjani is the head of Azad University?s Board of Trustees.

Abid, for his part, recalled Iran?s status and Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani?s popularity with the Afghan people and said that mutual respect is the basis of Afghanistan?s ties with other countries.

Characterizing Taliban era as black and tyrannical in Afghanistan?s history, the Afghan minister said that Afghans took the first step for their better future by electing a president.

?We know that Iran has acquired valuable experiences in the field of higher education and we are determined to use them,? he said.

He also called for further cooperation with Azad University.
