Irans First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri has reaffirmed that the countrys foreign policy approach is to improve ties with African states, saying Tehran is ready to help resolve problems in Africa.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, which holds the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement, is ready to participate in initiatives aimed to settle problems in the African region, Jahangiri said in a Saturday meeting with Senegalese Foreign Minister Mankeur Ndiaye in Tehran.
Iran and Senegal have many commonalties and can expand their relations in all fields, he added.
The Iranian vice president noted that the Iranian government pursues ties with other countries based on mutual respect and common interests and believes that the ground is prepared for enhanced ties with African countries including Senegal.

Jahangiri expressed hope that the exchange of visits between Iranian and Senegalese officials would further pave the ground for strengthening cooperation, especially in the industries sector, given the two countries great capacities.

Ndiaye, for his part, said Tehran and Dakar have very good prospects for enhanced relations and expressed hope that his visit to Iran would open a new chapter in mutual ties.

Iran and Senegal can increase the level of cooperation in various fields such as in oil, gas and electricity sectors, he added.

During the meeting, Ndiaye also handed over a written message from Senegalese President Macky Sall to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani.
