Irans festival to show world politicians caricature

The sixth edition of Fajr International Visual Arts Festival is set to hold a contest centered on the caricature of the world leading politicians.
The contest has been designed as one of the exciting programs in caricature category that will be held in two subdivisions including cartoon and portrait.

The participants in cartoon have to focus on the issue of art and the artists who take part in portrait are required to work on the worlds renowned politicians.

Some 845 works created by the Iranian and international artists have been submitted to this section of the festival so far. The entries feature Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Nelson Mandela and some other political celebrities.

The committee selection of cartoon category is comprised of Kambiz Derambakhsh, Masoud Ziaei and Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour.

Javad Alizadeh, Ali Reza Pakdel and Nasrin Abdosheykhi will also select the works for portrait of politicians.

A number of eminent foreign artists are also to join the Iranian jurors to judge the selected works in the categories of cartoon, graphic design, illustration and photography, the festivals secretary Abbas Mir Hashemi had earlier said.

The national section of the festival will be held in the various categories of painting, miniature, ceramic, sculpture and calligraphy.

The participated artists in international section of the event are to compete in four sections including cartoon with the central theme of art and caricature of world political celebrities, photography focused on the theme of hope and happiness, illustration centered on the theme of family and poster with the theme of energy.

The festival annually hosts many artists from the country and around the world to vie in nine categories including painting, graphic design, pottery, illustration, miniature, and caricature and several other forms of art.

Iran's Fajr International Visual Arts Festival is part of the country's cultural programs held every year to commemorate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The sixth edition of the festival is scheduled to take place from February 3 through 24, 2014.
