Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA Some 2,400 well-known Iranian political and cultural figures have signed a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as part of a ?popular protest? to complain about medicine sanctions on Iran which created humanitarian disaster taking tolls on patients. They questioned the logic behind such unwise measures taken by the US administration.

Former president Mohammad Khatami, Fatemeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, head of the Charity Foundation for Special Diseases and the older daughter of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, chairman of the Expediency Council, veteran actors Ezzatollah Entezami and Reza Kianian, Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi, another well-known director Abbas Kiarostami, Managing Director of Iran?s Hemophilia Society Ahmad Qavidel and Alireza Zali Head of Iran?s Medical Council Organization are among the signatories.

They have registered their signatures in www.pprotest.com, a website designed by the Charity Foundation for Special Diseases to reflect the protest movement.

Part of the letter reads: ?We are well aware that there is not even a line in any document about sanctioning medicines, but as the EU parliamentary delegation (to Iran) acknowledged, sanctions on Central Bank of Iran and the ban on exchange of money have imposed difficulties on imports of medicines.?
