The Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip that claimed the lives of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old girl.
“Undoubtedly, this move is out of desperation and fear from the emergence of the third intifada of the oppressed Palestinians throughout the occupied territories, especially the Islamic resistance in the West Bank,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Tuesday.
She also stated that Iran holds the Israeli regime fully responsible for the consequences of Zionists’ escalation of state terrorism, and calls on all international institutions, specially the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to condemn Israeli atrocities, honor their responsibilities and stop Israelis from perpetrating crimes against the oppressed and besieged Gazans.
Earlier in the day, two Palestinians lost their lives and several others were wounded in the Israeli airstrike.
Israeli warplanes initially targeted a training facility in the town of Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip. Another strike was reported in the center of the impoverished Palestinian enclave, and two more occurred in the east of Gaza City.
The Israeli military frequently bombs the Gaza Strip, saying the attacks are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used, in violation of international law, and civilians are often killed or injured.
Gaza has been blockaded since June 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standards of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
The 1.7 million Palestinians of the Gaza Strip are living in what is called the world’s largest open-air prison as Israel retains full control of the airspace, territorial waters, and border crossings of the territory.
The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
