Iran and Armenia to step up relations in new year – expert says
YEREVAN, December 24. / ARKA /. An Armenian expert in Iranian affairs, Gohar Iskandaryan, predicted today a breakthrough in Armenia -Iran economic relations in 2014.
Speaking at a news conference she said after the talks in Geneva on Tehran’s nuclear program Iran is seeking a pro-active role and once part of western-slapped sanctions are removed it  will get an opportunity to carry out a number of projects, including with Armenia.

She said after the Geneva talks,  Iran's economy is showing steady signs of becoming more stable which she said gives hope that some Armenian-Iranian projects would be after all materialized, first of all the construction of Meghri hydropower plant on the border river of Arax.

She added that following the Geneva talks Iran indicated it could sell Armenia cheap gas, which was impossible earlier.

"The partial removal of sanctions and restrictions allowed Iran to expand cooperation with partner countries and enter new markets, which was impossible under the administration of former president Ahmadinejad,"  said Iskandaryan .

She said also the new president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, haswarm aattitude towards Armenia, is well aware of the Karabakh conflict and is ready to develop bilateral cooperation.
