A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic has equipped all sensitive and nuclear sites of the country with a smart surveillance system.
“The Rassed 32 surveillance system… has been handed over to all of the country’s sensitive and nuclear centers in sufficient and considerable numbers,” Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili told reporters on Saturday.
He said that Iran has also built and deployed an indigenous cannon system dubbed Safat 1 which can counter cruise missiles equipped with electro-optic systems.
Elaborating on other recent military achievements, Esmaili said that Iran has upgraded the indigenous S-200 missile defense system to fire both long-range as well as mid-range Sayyad 2(Hunter II) missiles.
The top commander went on to say that last month Iran successfully test-fired the upgraded Shalamcheh missile from the Mersad 2 system against drone targets.
He added that the Mersad 2 missile system has now been deployed in different parts of the country.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
The Islamic Republic has also held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.
Iran has repeatedly said its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is totally based on deterrence.
