President Rouhanis anti-extremism proposals on UN agenda

New York, Dec 14, IRNA Proposals of Iran?s President Hassan Rouhani on fight against extremism and violence were put on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly to be ratified as a UN resolution, it was reported on Friday.
According to Irans Permanent Representative to the UN Mohammad Khazaei, the proposals were originally raised by President Rouhani in his address to the 68th session of the UN general assembly in New York on September 25.

Criticizing problems facing the world countries due to aggressive policies of certain countries, the Iranian President had called on world nations to form a global coalition against extremism under the leadership of the United Nations.

If there was a global coalition against aggression and extremism, undoubtedly, we would have a bright future before us, President Rouhani told the UN General Assembly.

Khazaei told IRNA that the proposals were presented to the UN General Assembly as a draft resolution after holding several rounds of talks and consultations with other member states during the past two months to reach a consensus on it.

He expressed hope that the draft resolution would win the approval of the next UN General Assembly meeting which is to be held within the coming days.
