Official: Chabahar best option for transit of goods

Chabahar, Dec 5, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour said on Thursday that the southeastern Iranian port city of Chabahar was the best option for transit of goods to other countries compard to similar ports in India, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Rahimpour made the remarks in a meeting with Managing Director of Chabahar Free Trade Zone Hamed-Ali Mobaraki.

Chabahar can play a significant role in expading cultural relations with other countries and promoting tourism industry by absorbing foreign investments, he said.

Development of Chabahar port and its connection to nationwide rail and road networks are among top necessities of the region, he said.

Mobaraki, for his part, said to make optimal use of the port for carrying out development and economic projects, expansion of cooperation with foreign ministry is of prime importance.

He called for more facilities to be provided for Chabahar free trade zone such issuing visa in order to prepare the grounds for presence of foreign investors.

Expansion of international cooperation is among top priorities in the free zone, Mobaraki said.

Launching regular shipping line, construction of rail tracks and construction of an international airport would help the free trade zone turn into a major economic hub in the region, he said.
