21st ECO foreign ministerial meeting kicks off in Tehran

Tehran, Nov 26, IRNA The 21st Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) kicked off here Tuesday morning in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani.
The President is to address the meeting, followed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.


Foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan as well as Pakistan prime ministers advisor, Turkmenistans economy minister, Kazakhstan deputy foreign minister and ambassadors of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are participating in the event.

ECO comprises of ten member states. It was initially founded by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan in 1962 but then grew in 1993 to also include other regional countries.

As an important regional economic body with vast oil, gas and industrial capabilities and potential, ECO presently spans over a territory of close to 7 million square kilometers and has a population of approximate 330 million.
