Top South Korea diplomat to visit Iran for talks
South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs Lee Kyung-soo is set to pay an official visit to Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on ways to improve bilateral relations.
Lee will be in Iran from November 25-28 to discuss avenues for bolstering political, economic and cultural ties.

He is scheduled to meet Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour and other top political and economic officials.

Meanwhile, South Koreas Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, saying Lee would hold high-level consultations with Rahimpour to discuss further promotion of Tehran-Seoul relations.

It added that the two sides would exchange views on a wide range of issues, including the current situations in the Middle East and developments on the Korean Peninsula.

On September 16, the Central Securities Depository of Iran Chairman Hamed Soltaninejad and South Korea Securities Depository Chairman Kyung Dong Kim signed a memorandum of understanding to further cement trade ties and facilitate interaction between their capital markets.

Under the agreement, Iranian and South Korean depositories will be able to buy and sell long-term debt- or equity-backed securities in each others capital markets.

In January, South Korean President Park Geun-hye hailed her countrys longstanding relations with Iran, stressing that Seoul attaches great significance to the expansion of ties with Tehran in all fields.

In a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Seoul Ahmad Masoumifar, Park described the Islamic Republic as one of South Koreas major trade partners in the Middle East.
