TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Mohammad al-Shaar said that the steadfastness of the Syrian people is stronger than terrorism ''which is targeting schoolchildren in their schools".

Al-Shaar's remarks came during his visit on Monday to inspect al-Qassaa' and Bab Sharqi areas in Damascus that have come under terrorist attacks with mortar rounds, SANA reported.

''This vindictive targeting of young children comes due to the severe blows that terrorists suffered at the hands of the Syrian army and security forces in several parts of the country,'' the minister said.

He affirmed that the terrorist groups will definitely be crushed by the Syrian army, stressing that ''those mercenaries will not take away from our determination and faith in victory.''

The interior minister said that the unity of the Syrian people is stronger than all sabotage acts, voicing confidence that terrorists will not succeed in shaking the civil peace that has marked Syria for so long.

Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant Archbishop Luka al-Khoury, for his part, said ''we have our roots running deep in this land and we've known safety only in Syria, for it is a blessed land for which we are ready to sacrifice our souls.''
