Obama calls Netanyahu amid worries about Iran deal

MIAMI (AP) -- President Barack Obama has spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid Israel's staunch opposition to a potential nuclear deal with Iran.
The White House says Obama updated Netanyahu Friday on multilateral negotiations in Geneva involving Secretary of State John Kerry. Obama affirmed he's still committed to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The White House says Obama and Netanyahu will stay in close contact.

Netanyahu has rejected any agreement in the making as a "bad deal" that would give Iran a pass on its nuclear program. The White House says the critique is premature because no deal has been reached.

The White House says Obama called Netanyahu from Air Force One on his way to New Orleans. Obama was in Louisiana for a speech before flying to Florida.
