Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says a framework deal could be reached in the upcoming nuclear talks between Iran and the six major world powers in Geneva."I believe it is even possible to reach that agreement this week but I can only talk for our side, I cannot talk for the other side," Zarif said in an interview with France 24 TV in Paris on Tuesday.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that a deal would be possible with political will on all sides, but it would not be a disaster if a breakthrough at this round is not made.
Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain -- plus Germany will meet in the Swiss city of Geneva on November 7-8 to discuss Tehrans nuclear energy program.
"I believe there is a lot of work to be done. We have made some progress, but there is a great deal of mistrust in Iran concerning the attitude, behavior and approach of some members of the P5+1," Zarif said.
He also hailed as positive last weeks negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and expert level talks with the six powers.
Zarif arrived in Paris earlier in the day to attend the 37th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Iranian foreign minister will leave Paris for Geneva on Wednesday to participate in the nuclear talks.
Iran and the six world powers wrapped up two days of nuclear talks in Geneva on October 16.
The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that the Iranian nuclear program has been diverted toward military objectives.
