Rouhani to attend Majlis on Sunday

Iran President Hassan Rouhani will attend the Majlis meeting on Sunday to defend the qualifications of the proposed candidates for the three remaining vacancies in his Cabinet.
A number of Cabinet ministers and the First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri will also attend the Majlis session, said Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari.

On Saturday, Rouhani introduced Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri as the minister of sports and youth, Ali Asghar Fani as the education minister and Reza Faraji Dana as the minister of science, research and technology.

At the Sunday Majlis meeting, Rouhani will be given one hour to defend the three nominees for the ministerial posts. Afterwards, two lawmakers will speak in favor, and two others against each of the proposed candidates.

Later in the session, each of the three nominates will present their views for 30 minutes.

Rouhani had appointed caretakers for the three ministries after the Majlis did not give votes of confidence to the initially-proposed nominees.

The caretakers appointed to head the ministries of education; science, research and technology; and sports and youth were Ali Asghar Fani, Jafar Tofiqi and Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, respectively.

During a four-day debate in August, Majlis approved the credentials of 15 out of the 18 nominees introduced by Rouhani for his Cabinet.
