Iran Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has rejected the latest report of the UN special rapporteur on the countrys human rights situation, Ahmed Shaheed, as biased and based on political motivations.In a region which is suffering from extremism, violence and terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as the axis of regional stability and responsible moderation, has constructive interaction with the international community and does not accept its human rights situation to be judged on the basis of biased reports, said Marzieh Afkham in a Thursday statement.
Emphasizing that the Islamic Republic considers the appointment of the UN special rapporteur on human rights as an insult to the great nation of Iran, and does not recognize it, she noted that the procedure for the appointment of a special rapporteur at the UN is entirely political and pursued by a select group of countries at the UN Human Rights Council.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman further argued that the report has been prepared with political motives and has unfairly tried to describe the human rights state of Iran.
She also emphasized that the main sources for the report have been terrorist and violence-seeking groups responsible for killing innocent people, making it unreliable and without a legal merit.
Afkham then pointed to the rapporteurs lack of understanding of developments in Iran, stressing that the report has ignored the high turnout of the Iranian population in the nations latest presidential election in June.
Shaheeds report was also slammed on Wednesday by the Islamic Republics permanent mission at the United Nations.
